The Reykjavik Zoo
Reykjavik’s Zoo is located a bit out of the city center, meaning you’ll need to take a bus or cab there, or be prepared for about a 25-30 minute long walk. During summer, it’s a pleasant place to spend the afternoon and it provides kids and adults with the chance to see some of Iceland’s native animals up close.
Unlike zoos you may have visited in other countries, Reykjavik’s Zoo doesn’t host the typical assortment of lions, tigers, and bears. Instead, it is home to about 150 animals from 19 different species like horses, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and wild birds. An onsite aquarium contains 20 fish species. Inquired and ill wild animals, like seals and arctic foxes are rehabilitated at the Zoo.
The Zoo also has an onsite cafe serving snacks, coffee, hot dogs and burgers.
The Zoo is open from 10am to 6pm in summer and from 10am to 5pm in winter. Adult admission is 600 ISK, kids 5-12 cost 500. There is a 100 ISK discount on weekdays.
