Iceland Trip – September 2010
When I took my first trip to Iceland in March of 2009, I instantly fell in love with the country. I’d expected to enjoy myself in the six days I was spending there, but I never imagined I’d be so captivated by the country that I’d be making a return trip a little over a year later. But here I am, about to set out for another, longer trip, around this beautiful island.
What’s on tap for this trip? Well, unlike the first trip, in which I stayed closed to the capital, this time I’ll be exploring much more of the country. I’m starting with a drive from Reykjavik to Akureyri, and then on to Husavik. I’ll be staying in a little cottage with a view of the sea, going whale watching, visiting the Myavtn nature baths and Myvatn lake, and then driving to the rugged Snæfellsnes peninsula. There I’ll be bunking in a small hostel in the town of Grundarfjordur and setting off on day trips to explore the peninsula and go horseback riding on the beach. From there, it’s back to Reykjavik to check out new and notable restaurants and hotels, gorge on hot dogs, and party all night on the Friday runtur. I’m also taking a bike tour of the city, and touring a local brewery.
